The Broome County Council of Churches is organizing the 32nd Annual CHOW Hunger Walk to Trample Hunger, to be held Sunday on the Binghamton University campus.

Participants should park behind the East Gym in Lot E1. Drivers can follow the signs along the roadways. Registration begins at 1 p.m., and the 2.5-mile walk begins at 2 p.m.

As always, free food and beverages will be provided all participants through BU food services provider Sodexo. Games, music and entertainment are also part of the event.

CHOW program director, Michael Leahey, said: “People are urged to find sponsors to support their walk. They can participate as a group or walk individually. In addition to enjoying the entertainment and food, the first 300 walkers registered and raising at least $50 will receive a free event T-shirt. Our goal this year is to raise funds to provide 250,000 meals to residents of Broome County who face food insecurity. Forty percent of those people are children”

Walkers are also urged to bring non-perishable food items to fill the CHOW truck.

The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse and its sister program, Broome Bounty, provided more than 1.2 million pounds of food and 1 million meals in 2013, all free, to its network of 62 food pantries and meal sites.

Walkers can call the Council of Churches at 724-9130 for more information and can pick up pledge packets at the office at 3 Otseningo St. in Binghamton. Registrations also will be taken on the day of the event. Pre-registered walkers can bring their pledge envelopes and money they collected to the walk.
