Some area residents walked the grounds of Binghamton University’s campus to help stomp out hunger in the community.

More than 600 walkers came out for the 33rd annual CHOW Hunger Walk.  CHOW, or the community hunger outreach warehouse, works to fight hunger in the Southern Tier.  Organizers say today’s walk is the organization’s largest fundraiser.  While there was no registration fee, participants were asked to donate money or a non-perishable food item for the cause.

“I think that a lot individuals in our community don’t have a full view or full understanding of the food insecure individuals in the community.  And I think this event helps them understand that, and realize that, and of course give back to them,” said Co-Organizer of CHOW Walk Leslie Cody.

Hundreds of food items and thousands of dollars were raised for the CHOW program at today’s event.  Organizers say each dollar donated allows CHOW to bring four meals to the community.
