(WBNG Binghamton) Ramp It Up, a program of the Broome County Council of Churches, has extended its deadline for applications from people in need of wheelchair ramps for Broome County residential homes.

Applications are considered in a first-come, first-served basis. It takes several weeks to evaluate each application. The lot size, configuration and ADA regulations are included in determining the feasibility for youth groups to build a ramp. Construction of ramps will take place between May 1 and October 25.

During the 2013 ramp-building season, approximately 120 youth, working with 50 adult mentors, donated about 1,600 hours of time to construct a record number of 16 ramps through this initiative of the Council. That brought the total number of ramps built to 64.

To request an application, or to obtain more information, contact Ron Wenzinger, program coordinator, at the Council at 724-9130, extension 323.
