The Binghamton Devils were getting into the holiday spirit on Monday, by dropping off a big donation to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW).

The Binghamton Devils team captain Kevin Rooney helped unload six barrels of food collected through the B-Devils’ food drive.

They gave fans the chance to pay for their tickets to select hockey games by donating food instead. Fans were allowed to bring in two or more non-perishable food items in exchange for a free ticket. The event went on from November 26 to December 15.

The holidays are a crucial time for food donations. According to CHOW there are more than 16,000 children in Broome County who depend on free and reduced lunches in school. During the holiday break they will not get the regular breakfast or lunch that they would normally get at school. It’s up to the community and CHOW to make sure they are getting enough to eat.

After weighing in their donations, the B-Devils managed to collect and donate 1,415 pounds of food to CHOW.
