Vestal (WBNG)–Columbian Financial Group donated more than three tons of food to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) program on Wednesday.

CHOW partners with local food pantries and soup kitchens to feed Broome County families in need.

Summer is an especially busy time of year for CHOW, according to CHOW officials, saying children who rely on free lunch at school miss out from those meal options when school is out of session.

“When they (many people) think of giving, they think of the holidays Thanksgiving and Christmas and people do not realize that the need goes up quite a bit in the summer,” says CHOW Manager, Jack Seman.

President of the Columbian Financial Group, Michael Fosbury, says the annual drive is treated as a fun competition among co-workers.

“We break up into teams and try to out- raise each other,” says Fosbury.

Over the past six years, CFG has raised more than 14 tons of food through the drive.
