(WBNG) — Faith in Action Volunteers with the Broome County Council of Churches empowers people ages 60 and above to be active, engaged and involved in the community. Faith in Action provides free inclusive programming and care partnerships.

Susan Spencer with Faith in Action Volunteers says their mission is to help seniors in our community stay independent and healthy and remain in their homes as long as possible. Spencer says the partnerships between the volunteers and the seniors are especially important during the pandemic as seniors are more isolated

The Faith in Action Volunteers assist by taking seniors to doctors appointments, grocery shopping for them, and calling to check in. During the winter and holiday season, Spencer suggests that community members can help seniors by offering to shovel their sidewalks and driveways when it snows or bringing letters from the mailbox to a seniors home.
