An organization that provided about one million meals to area residents last year is thanking one of the largest credit unions in upstate New York for a generous donation.

The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, or C.H.O.W.will receive $20,000  from SEFCU Credit Union. It’s all part of SEFCU’s mission to donate $250,000 to food pantries and rescue missions across the capital region, Syracuse, Buffalo and right here in Binghamton. C.H.O.W. organizers say the donation will help many families this winter season.

Mike Leahey, director of C.H.O.W. said, “The donation from SEFCU will help us provide about 16,000 people with five days worth of meals.”

Leahey says referrals for C.H.O.W. are up ten to 15 percent this year and with the winter weather setting in, the charitable donation from SEFCU is even more significant.
