Local and state leaders have launched the 7th Annual Thanksgiving Food Challenge, a collaborative effort to fight hunger and support the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW), a program of the Broome County Council of Churches.
The challenge runs from November 10–21, inviting residents and government employees to donate non-perishable food items or monetary contributions to help families in need during the holiday season.
- Donations can be dropped off at collection bins located in participating offices from 8 AM to 5 PM.
- Every $1 donated provides 5 meals to local families.
- Last year’s challenge delivered the equivalent of 21,000 meals, with Team University leading the way.
Food insecurity remains a pressing issue in Broome County, where 1 in 8 individuals and 1 in 6 children struggle to access adequate nutrition. Recent cuts to SNAP benefits have further strained the emergency food system, making this year’s challenge more critical than ever.
