Nineteen years ago the Southern Tier Barbershop Chorus started what became a yearly tradition, 19 years ago, when they created the first benefit concert for Broome County CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse.) Back then, the group was known as the Southerntiermen according to the co-chairmen, John Rice and Tom Landon. Other local musical groups have joined in on this great effort to raise funds for Broome County CHOW.
On Sunday, December 3rd, 2023, the Southern Tier Barbershop Chorus sponsored their annual Concert for Broome County CHOW with four ensembles providing seasonal music at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church on Clinton Street, Binghamton.
The Southern Tier Barbershop Chorus notes in a press release that the 2023 concert was the most successful to date. Those who attended contributed almost $3500 to Broome County CHOW.

In addition to the Southern Tier Christian Choir, the 2023 concert included the Endwell Community Chorus, Southern Tier Christian Choir, and Sunday Brass. The Director of Broome County CHOW, Les Aylesworth was on hand and thanked everyone for the difference they made by performing and attending the concert.

Aylesworth noted that every dollar raised produces five meals for individuals and families needing support at this time of year. The need is always great, but this time of year, the need is greater, especially during the time that students are out of school for the holiday break, when they normally would get their breakfast and/or lunch at school.

The group will present a check to Broome County CHOW at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12th in the courtyard nearest the JC Penny store in the Oakdale Commons. The Southern Tier Barbershop Chorus will perform at 6:30 p.m. just before the check presentation. The public is invited to come out, enjoy the music, and the check presentation to Broome County CHOW.
