A local Elks Club is donating thousands of dollars to fight food insecurity.
The Johnson City Elks presented a $4,000 check to CHOW.
Elks Club president Josh Bell says many people don’t know that the Elks Club is more than just a restaurant or bar. He says its mission is to raise and collect money for charitable organizations across the country.
Bell says the JC Elks typically support causes such as children’s programs, drug abuse awareness, and veterans services. He says that with the SNAP cuts this past year, he felt food insecurity was an appropriate cause.
“We actually have done it in the past, undoubtedly will continue to do it in the future. Unfortunately, I don’t see food insecurity as a problem that’s going to go away in this area, certainly. So, CHOW is something that will certainly stay on our radar for future donations,” said Bell.
Bell says on Saturday the JC Elks Club marched in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade representing its drug awareness program.
