Over $40,000 is going back into the community as a result of the Jim “Mudcat” Grant Legacy All-Star Golf Tournament which was held last month.

20 years ago, Security Mutual teamed up with Jim “Mudcat” Grant to host the charity tournament. Each year, proceeds go to four local charities: Broome County Urban League, the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton, Catholic Charities of Broome County, and CHOW. This year, each of those organizations received a check for $10,000.

Another $6,500 collected on the day of the tournament is going to sponsor a veteran at the City of Binghamton’s homeless veterans housing on Pine Street.

“We are able to do a lot of good work and carry out our missions because of events like this. On behalf of all of the organizations, we are so thankful,” says Marybeth Smith, the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton.

Grant passed away in June at the age of 85, but Smith and the other organizations say his impact lives on through the years of donations that have helped countless members of the community.

At a press conference on Friday, Security Mutual also promoted the upcoming charity concert being held at the Broome County Forum. The Elton John and Billy Joel tribute show on October 9th will raise money for the company’s Sock Out Cancer initiative.
