Over $28,000 in grants have been awarded to projects by the Stephen David Ross University and Community Projects Fund through the Center for Civic Engagement at Binghamton University.

In all, a total of $28,300 was awarded to four projects.

The AccELerate Through VTS: Science, Language and Living Environments project received a total of $5,838. The money will be used by the Roberson Museum and Science Center and Binghamton University’s Department of Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership to promote language growth through science for English learners through Visual Thinking Strategies.

A project supporting the CHOW Bus received $14,462. This money will be used by Broome County Council of Churches, the Food Justice Working Group and Center for Civic Engagement at Binghamton University to assist in evaluating the needs of our community to bring innovative programming to help support those who struggle with food insecurity in Broome County.

The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier and Binghamton University’s Multicultural Resource Center were awarded $5,000 for the Kids Cultural Kaleidoscope project that exposes and enriches children and families to BU and new members of the community.

Finally, $3,000 was awarded to the Reproductive Justice Project of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Binghamton and Binghamton University’s Theatre Department. This money will be used for the Everyone Knows Someone project which is a theatrical performance to bring awareness to de-stigmatize the process of having an abortion.
