The Binghamton Mets are calling on the community to dress up and help scare away hunger in our area.
A news conference was held on Monday to announce details for the Scare Away Hunger day at NYSEG Stadium.
During the B-Mets game on Sunday, fans can dress up in a Halloween costume and bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to CHOW.
The event is a partnership between the B-Mets, United Way and the Broome County Council of Churches.
CHOW Executive Director Mike Leahey says with school out for the summer, many families need to find a way to provide extra meals.
“People forget the important role that schools play in feeding people. They provide breakfast and lunch for so many people. Families that are struggling have 2 more meals to come up with per day, per child. When you live in a rural community, there’s fewer resources,” said Leahey.
Following the game, kids can participate in a helicopter candy drop.
A chopper will hover over NYSEG stadium and throw candy to kids standing on the field.
Discounted tickets can be purchased at the Broome County United Way in Vestal.
